Bayesian Methods in Inverse Problems

Summer course in Kuopio, Finland, 21-24 June 2004

The summer course in Bayesian methods in Inverse problems is part of the academic theme year of inverse problems in Finland during 2003-2004. The main topics of the course are the foundations and practical considerations of statistical (Bayesian) inversion theory and the related computational methods (e.g. MCMC). The course consist of 25 hours of lectures. The lecturers are:

Accommodation
Should you wish that the organizers book accomodation for you, please indicate so in the registration form. The accomodation options are university guest rooms at the Univ. Kuopio campus area and local hotels. The accomodation will be either in a single room or shared double room.

Funding
Funding for supporting the participation of young researchers and graduate students is available from the theme year funds. The funding will be directed to the accomodation costs. If you wish to apply for funding, please indicate so in the registration form and send an application to inverseyear@venda.uku.fi by 25 May 2004. Notice that funding will be only available for the accomodation booked through the organizers.

Registration
Please fill in the registration form. The registration deadline is Tuesday 25 May 2004. The course is free of charge.

Late registrations (after 25 May) may be considered by a separate application to inverseyear@venda.uku.fi. However, accomodation reservations or funding will not be granted by the organizers for participants registrated later than 25 May 2004.

Short presentations
Participants are encouraged to give short presentations on their work related to inverse problems. Preferably, the topic should be related to their work on Bayesian inversion methods or on problems for which they intend to apply Bayesian methods. The presentations will be discussed and commented by the audience and the objective is to give some useful advice and solution strategies. If you wish to give a talk, please indicate so in the registration form.

Transportation to Kuopio

Most international flights to Finland arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. There are frequent domestic connections to Kuopio by Finnair and Blue 1. For timetables and fares, visit the websites of Finnair and Blue 1 .

Kuopion Liikenne provides local bus transportation services in Kuopio. Buses 4, 16, 21 and 23 operate between the city center and University of Kuopio.
